Ravens Remain in Contention Behind Derrick Henry's Four Scores Outburst, Houston Clinch Postseason Spot

The veteran running back ran for a season-high 216 rushing yards and equaled a personal best with four TDs on the ground as the Baltimore Ravens remained in the postseason hunt by beating the Packers 41-24 on Saturday evening.

Henry had three scores in the first half and then scored again on a 25-yard dash with 1:56 left in the game. His seventh 200-yard rushing performance surpassed Adrian Peterson and OJ Simpson for the most in NFL history.

His 36 carries represented a personal record.

The Baltimore Ravens, now 8-8 now must hope the AFC North-leading Pittsburgh Steelers lose at Cleveland on Sunday. A Pittsburgh win in Cleveland would extinguish Baltimore’s postseason dreams. If the Browns win that game, the could capture the division title by beating the Pittsburgh on the road next week.

The Packers, falling to 9-6-1 dropped their third consecutive game, allowing the Bears to clinch the division crown. The Packers had previously secured a postseason spot earlier in the week.

Both teams were missing their first-string QBs as the Ravens' star QB deals with a back injury while the Packers' signal-caller is in the concussion protocol. The two replacement starters – Tyler Huntley and Green Bay’s Malik Willis – were both productive in a contest that saw only one punt.

Willis went 18 of 21 for a personal-best 288 yards and one touchdown, and he also rushed for 60 yards and two scores before leaving after re-injuring a shoulder issue. The Ravens' backup was 16 of 20 for 107 yards with a scoring pass.

The difference in the matchup was the Packers' failure to stop Henry, who helped the Baltimore outrush the Green Bay by a wide margin.

Henry didn’t touch the ball in the Ravens' last two possessions the week before in a narrow defeat. The veteran running back’s lack of fourth-quarter usage was a hot topic around Baltimore all week.

The coaching staff ensured he touched the rock early and often. Henry’s dominance allowed the Ravens to score on their initial five drives and take a 27-14 halftime lead.

Henry totaled 15 carries in Baltimore’s first two series and capped each of them with touchdown runs. He tacked on another short TD run just before the end of the half.

Green Bay got back into the game by outscoring the Ravens ten to nothing in the third period.

After a field goal, the Packers elicited the first punt of the night. Willis then ran for an 11-yard score to make it 27-24.

But the Baltimore squad responded on their ensuing drive.

The workhorse back ran for a key gain on a third-and-5. He ended the period with a long run. Those key runs set up a scoring strike from the quarterback to Zay Flowers.

The Packers' quarterback drove the offense into Ravens' land before injuring his throwing shoulder and departing for the sideline. His backup threw an pick on his only pass.

Houston Texans Secure Playoff Spot With Victory Over Los Angeles

CJ Stroud threw for two long touchdowns on the team's opening possessions, and the Houston went on to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 20-16 on Saturday to secure a third consecutive playoff berth.

The Texans (11-5) won their eighth in a row, their best run in several seasons.

The Los Angeles Chargers, also 11-5 had their positive run ended and ceded the division crown to their rivals.

Stroud’s two explosive TDs stunned the Chargers and gave the Texans a two-score advantage. On his first pass of the game, he hit a receiver for a 75-yard score. He later tossed a 43-yard TD on the next drive.

He completed his first six attempts of the game. He finished with 244 passing yards.

Houston’s defense recorded third-down sacks on the Chargers’ first two possessions. The Los Angeles offense were forced to quick punts on multiple early drives.

The LA signal-caller, playing with a broken hand, was sacked five times.

An interception of Stroud in the first half only produced a three points for the offense. Another takeaway did not yield any points.

The Chargers were denied on the goal line by a crucial interception. The target saw the ball pop off his hands, leading to the turnover.

The placekicker failed to convert a kick from close distance just before halftime and later missed an extra point on the team’s final drive after a score.

The Texans' kicker converted kicks from beyond 40 yards to contribute to the victory.
