Unveiling an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered plenty of engaging indie games. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a hero that is literally a dung trying to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is simple: press a jump control. In 150 stages, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a market to buy skins for your fecal avatar.

Time your movements carefully, since one mistake means restarting the level. Leap using air pockets to propel your character upward, cross disappearing surfaces, and touch buttons to open hidden paths. Earn currency for buying more difficult game content in which gameplay gets crazy.

Visually, the game features neon environments and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics featuring moving basic polygons may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, like taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on PC on November 19.
